Hello everyone! Man, it’s been a while since I’ve posted. To say it’s been busy would be an understatement. But enough about that, it’s time to get back into a healthy reading routine. For the next few months, I’d like to dive into the Star Wars Expanded Universe novels and comics. I also want to do a full readout of Spider-Man comics from his origin to the modern day. On the DC side, I’m still deciding between binging through iconic Batman stories or going through Geoff Johns’ Teen Titans leading up to Infinite Crisis and then moving on to 52. My desires are a bit ambitious, but might as well start now and not spend any more time deciding. So, here’s my reading plan for the rest of the year.

Star Wars Expanded Universe

Call me stubborn, but I refuse to call the EU by its now-official name, “Star Wars Legends.” I grew up during the golden age of the EU and the release of the Prequel Trilogy so these stories have really shaped my views on Star Wars as a whole. Despite reading a few novels, comic books, and character guides in my youth, I haven’t really been into Star Wars as an adult. And with all the unimpressive content that’s coming out in the “Star Wars Canon” (the only exceptions being The Mandalorian, Andor, and Rogue One), I’ve been somewhat starved for good space-opera content. While I have about 19 SW comic books within eyeshot as I type this, I actually want to start with the novels. Following some very helpful reading guides by @houston_skywalker and some of my own past history with the books, I developed this reading plan:

  • Labyrinth of Evil
  • Revenge of the Sith
  • Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader
  • Heir to the Empire
  • Dark Force Rising
  • The Last Command

Spider-Man

This is probably my most ambitious reading plan, but I’ve spent a good amount of time (and money) collecting all Spider-Man stories in paperback, hardcover, or even single-issue formats. I’m not done yet, as new stories are coming out faster than I can collect them. But I’ve managed to obtain books that collect most of the Amazing Spider-Man issues up to issue #10 of the 2025 relaunch. While I’ve read these stories as I collected them, I’ve always wanted to do a full semi-chronological readout of Spidey’s sage. After all, he is my favorite superhero! I’ll start with the early days:

  • Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus vol. 1
  • Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus: Year One
  • Spider-Man: With Great Power
  • Untold Tales of Spider-Man Omnibus
  • Spider-Man: Shadow of the Green Goblin
  • Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus vol. 2

Batman and the DC Universe

Here I’m torn between starting with Batman, or doing a lengthier “DC Universe” read starting with Geoff Johns’ Teen Titans and working my way up to Infinite Crisis. If I were to do Batman, my thoughts are to go this route:

  • Year One
  • The Man Who Laughs
  • Haunted Knight
  • The Long Halloween
  • Dark Victory
  • Batman & Robin: Year One
  • Robin: Year One
  • Batgirl: Year One
  • Nightwing: Year One

Alright, the time for making lists is over. Now is the time to read!
